Who is EPFA training suitable for?

  • Anyone who is likely to be caring for or supporting infants, children or young people whatever the environment, for example
    • in community, professional or volunteer care roles
    • in schools
    • through leisure activities
    • in clubs, groups or community activities
    • at venues or gathering places (churches, theatres, halls etc.)
    • at indoor or outdoor events
  • Individuals aged 18 or over, with a reasonable level of fitness and basic command of the English language as a minimum.

  • The roles and responsibilities of Paediatric First Aider
  • How to assess an emergency situation safely
    • unresponsive
    • choking
    • bleeding externally
    • suffering with shock
    • dealing with bites, stings or minor injuries.

How long is the EPFA training course?

This is a 1 day course, but it can be spread over two mornings or afternoons if more convenient.

The training course requires 6 contact hours of instruction.

A further 1 hour is added for breaks, so we suggest that 7 hours total is allowed for.

Is there a qualification/ certificate and how is EPFA training regulated?

There is an element of assessment throughout the day of training and all participants must also pass a multiple choice test at the end of the course to complete the training successfully.

Successful participants receive a certificate.

EPFA training courses delivered by First Aid Suffolk are ProTrainings certified.

Where do First Aid Suffolk EPFA courses take place? 

The classroom-based courses can take place at:

  • venues selected by First Aid Suffolk, local to Felixstowe or Ipswich
  • your own workplace, subject to appropriate room/ facilities

EPFA Training Course Details

Introductions follow the ‘admin’ (paperwork for the course, ID, houskeeping etc.), then participants will be trained in and continuously assessed for their practical skills around the following subjects:

  • Roles and responsibilities of Emergency Paediatric First Aider
  • How to conduct a scene survey
  • Identifying when to deliver CPR
  • How to care for a child/infant who is:
    • choking
    • bleeding
    • suffering with shock
  • How to provide First Aid for bites, stings and minor injuries.

A multiple choice test marks the end of the training course.
